Il Jack Russell Terrier è stato selezionato dai primi del 1800 come cane da caccia, prendendo il suo nome dal Reverendo John Russell (1975- 1883), l’allevatore della migliore linea di cani da volpe nel Devonshire, in Inghilterra nella metà del 1800.
